Good afternoon. I have to say - I’m new to openSUSE. There was a problem - I can not install the driver on Asus USB-N13 rev B1 wireless network adapter. Please help me to solve this problem)
P.S. OpenSUSE 12.2, kernel 3.4.2-2.10-desktop
I’m not sure you need to install anything
Can you post the output of these commands here :
/usr/sbin/lspci -nnk
/usr/sbin/lsusb
I’m not 100% sure it should be /usr/sbin. If that doesn’t work try the commands from the root env :
lspci -nnk
lsusb
lspci -nnk results^

Do you have kernel-firmware package installed ?
If yes what is the output of
iwconfig
Firmware was installed…i gues =)
iwconfig results:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=0 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:on
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
By the way, after a reboot, I used (# ifconfig wlan0 up) and LED indicator lights up on the controller, but not blinking.
The network icon in the upper right corner does not appear. After the next reboot, the network adapter back down. Maybe it will be an important …
Hmm maybe you are not using network manager then ?
Can you go to YaST and see if in the network settings you have the checkbox to use NetworkManager checked ?
If yes which desktop are you using ?
sooo.I turned on “network manager”. One of the wi-fi network was found. BUT! When connecting requires authentication key, I enter this key, try to connect and asks the key again. At the same time, LED on the adapter is lit permanently…The key is correct 100%

Your device driver is rtl8192cu. As you did not seem to be clear as to whether
the firmware is installed, and you don’t seem to know about dmesg, please report
the output of the command
ls -l /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8192cufw.bin
That is <minus><ell> (lower case l), not a one.
You might have more success using the compat-wireless package. There are lots of
reports of problems making a connection with the RTL8192CU chip, or the
connection dropping almost immediately after connection. I am unable to
duplicate these results. In fact, yesterday I used my device with exactly the
same USB IDs as yours and maintained a connection with a ping that ran for
15,000 seconds. At that point, I needed the computer for some other task.
ls results:
-rw-r--r-- root root 16014 july 19 09:02 /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8192cufw.bin
Thank u so much. If u have any ideas about this problem, I hope you share them.Like openSUSE 12.2, and don’t want to downgrade it. I hope the problem will be solved)
Thanks again, I will watch a topic =)
So did you try installing compat-wireless package or is it installed already ?
Similar problem. I can get it to set up in network manager, but drops out after a very short while -
Long time suser since 6.1. Using opensuse 12.2 x86_64 now, Installed an ASUS USB N-13 Rev B1 Wireless adapter, since my PCI wirelss adapater was suspected of failing (IRQ17 errors…) The ASUS N13 Starts up OK, but drops out after a few minutes - BUT, if I am constantly pinging my wireless router, it stays up!
(If it “drops out” I need to Unplug the ASUS N13, re-plug, go to Network Manager, and double click my connection that is associated to the adapter)
and then start pinging something (normally my wireless router)

Anyone have one of these wireless adapters and got it working in os12.2?
? (without having to run a constant ping!???)
Maybe some kind of power management feature/option?
