Asus USB-N13 rev. A1 slow speeds on OpenSUSE 12.3

Hi,

Just switched to OpenSUSE from Ubuntu and can’t get my wireless connection to be stable. I’m using OpenSUSE 12.3 without desktop manager (ssh connection). Both my router and my card are 11n.
Below is the output from iwconfig, lsusb, uname, and hwinfo:
OpenSUSE box and my router are in the same room.

–iwconfig

I have a feeling that the problem is with the driver. My speed is fluctuating from 1mb/s to 78mb/s, there are also packet drops and connection errors.
Is there a ready-to-install driver available in the repositories that I can try? I found this article (https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/wireless/465592-how-run-asus-n13-usb-adaptor-full-speed.html) but there were no repositories for OpenSUSE 12.3.

I don’t feel like re-compiling my own driver (had a number of issues with Ubuntu with custom compiled driver and kernel/system upgrades).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All differences like that should be due to kernel differences. What are the two
versions?

Hi lwfinger,

My current driver is rt2800usb, and on the OpenSUSE Repositories for 11.4 it is rt5370sta-kmp-desktop-2.5.0.3_k2.6.37.1_1.2-3.1.x86_64.rpm.

So it looks like the driver on the portal is for kernel 2.5 and I have 3.7 installed.

Your first report made it sound as if the Ubuntu distro worked better. It was
that kernel that I asked about.

Trying to get a driver for 2.5 to build on 3.7 would be incredibly difficult. In
addition, that driver is likely to be a lot worse than the one you have.

I have an RaLink device that uses that driver. The USB ID is 148f:3070. It works
fine using rt2800usb. My kernel is newer than yours, thus it might be worthwhile
for you to install the compat-wireless package for your kernel.

Thank you for this suggestion. I will try it then.Tim
