ASUS M3A78-CM motherboard

I was wondering if forum members could relate their experience with the ASUS M3A78-CM motherboard. It is using an ATI RV610 video processor. Is this supported? Also, it has “express gate” which consists of an on board O/S, which sounds like a flavor of Linux. Can this be overwritten with SuSE?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I suppose you could wipe the flash drive, but it’s part of the motherboard so it shouldn’t get in your way:

The ATI RV610 is basically a 2400XT which is supported.

Strangely enough I’m also looking at the same request since I’ve tested Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) and am having fan speed issues (full on at 5000 RPM all the time).
According to the following site however, Opensuse 11 works.

Linux Compatibility Test Report for ASUSTek M3A78-CM

I’de been using (Open)suse since 8.0 and might go back to it quicker than I thought !!

N.B. As for the mention at the end of the test result about audio adapter not detected, I know that drivers are included in the Asus setup DVD so that might resolve it.

ASUS M3A78-CM motherboard, i didn’t use this motherboard.

For the record, I note “On-board VIA VT1708B 8 -Channel High Definition Audio CODEC” is the audio. That audio was only recently supported by alsa (starting in 1.0.15) which means it could work for openSUSE-11.0 but not work for openSUSE 10.3 as installed. However one could upgrade alsa to a newer version so it would work (assuming lspci detects the adapter - its also possible a newer kernel is needed (speculation on my part)).

I’m puzzled by their N/A assessment, … and their comment. If lspci does not detect the adapter, then no upgrading of alsa will work.

The alsa web page has this on the VT1708B: Search results for VT1708B - AlsaProject

The audio from this board with USB speakers is scratchy. I have not yet had the chance to upgrade the drivers.

I am on Suse 11.1 64 bit that was just recently installed.

Also, does the HDMI port on the board work well … wanted to ask before I invest big bucks on a HDMI monitor

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks
