Asus M3A-H/HDMI openSuSe 11.0 and sound drivers?

Should install the drivers what comed with driver dvd, on my mother board? ( it says that it is for suse10.1 )
Its just because on windows side the sound is more louder as its should be but on linux site it is guide silent, even do i`m using headphones, but since windows side sound is ok, so what to do that sound could be much good as it can be on windows side?

This can depend on the details of your audio codec. I have no idea what hardware audio codec an Asus M3A-H/HDMI has. I’m a bit confused, your title states openSUSE-11.0 but your text openSUSE-10.1. Which one are you using?

I recommend you try work your way through the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide:
SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

In particular, go to:
YAST > HaRDWARE > SOUND > OTHER > Volume and move the volume slider bars up to about 80% or so. And when in your mixer, ensure both master and PCM volume are at 80% or so.

If the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide does not help, then you need to provide us more information on your PC and sound setup. Please start by copy and pasting the following diagnostic script into a gnome-terminal / konsole with your PC connected to the internet:

and when prompted for a password enter your root password. Please try to accurately estimate the number of jacks/plug you have when asked (for example, I have 3 i/o sound jacks on my PC), and when the script is complete it will give you a URL. Please post that URL on this thread.

Also, in addition to the above, please copy and paste the following commands one line at a time into a gnome-terminal / konsole and paste here the output of these commands:

Assuming you are using openSUSE-11.0, are you using Gnome? KDE-3.5.9 or KDE-4.0 ?

Also, when testing your sound for functionality, please copy and paste the following sound test into a gnome-terminal / konsole:

That 10.1 i mean that the driver was pointed to suse10.1, and i was wondering does it work on opensuse 11.0?

Do not download a custom driver … at least not until we know more about your hardware. Typically (for most hardware) alsa provides the driver that you need.

Thanks for the script output. I note you have openSUSE-11.0 has a 2.6.25.16-4 kernel. That was surprise! I then went to the nominal openSUSE Update repository for openSUSE-11.0 and checked, and as far as I can tell 2.6.25.11 is the most recent kernel.

I searched for 2.6.25.16 and discovered a build service kernel repos which had 2.6.25.16 for SL110.
Index of /repositories/Kernel:/SL110_BRANCH/openSUSE_11.0
Is “SL” the same as openSUSE? … anyway, … I presume you have a good reason for this kernel version, as a non-nomimal kernel could break various functions, such as webcam, sound, video, virtual box, etc …

This looks like a “stock” 1.0.16 alsa.

I am not sure if I can help. I really do not know how that kernel will interface to your alsa driver.

You have surround enabled but volume set to zero. Have you tried either switching OFF surround, or leaving ti on but turning up the Center, LFE< Side and Line volume levels?

I’ve read that openSUSE-11.0 is known to have a bug that the default auto setting for some sound modules does not work well (I do not know which ones). So lets try an edit to your /etc/modprobe.d/sound file.

Open up the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file with an editor with root permissions and add a fourth line, changing that file to the following:
**options snd slots=snd-hda-intel

5Dex._goovBCg2_2:SBx00 Azalia

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=auto**

and after the update, restart your alsa with:
su -c 'rcalsasound restart’
and test your audio with the sound test I gave above. Check your mixer as well.

My reference for “auto” being the default setting comes from the ALSA-Configuration.txt file that comes with 1.0.16 alsa documentation:

If “auto” does not work, you could try replace “auto” with “6stack-dig” in your /etc/modprobe.d/sound file and see if that helps. Restart your alsa after saving that value in the file, and test your audio. Again, note my comments about surround sound above when testing with different model options.

Thanks for the script output. I note you have openSUSE-11.0 has a 2.6.25.16-4 kernel. That was surprise! I then went to the nominal openSUSE Update repository for openSUSE-11.0 and checked, and as far as I can tell 2.6.25.11 is the most recent kernel.

I searched for 2.6.25.16 and discovered a build service kernel repos which had 2.6.25.16 for SL110.

Is “SL” the same as openSUSE? … anyway, … I presume you have a good reason for this kernel version, as a non-nomimal kernel could break various functions, such as webcam, sound, video, virtual box, etc …

Well the sound problem was even before i updated the kernel, so the newer kernel did not broke the sound function.

Is the ALC1200 supported yet? I have not read of it being supported.

If this does not work for you, then I recommend you write a bug report on the ALC1200 not being supported.
