Associate File Icons with File Types in GNOME

Hi,
I need some help in associating a particular file type with its file icon under GNOME.

The file type is a .vi (Labview Virtual Instrument) and the development environment has installed all the associated file icons in the /usr/share/pixmaps folder. However, I cannot associate any file that I create…with the right right icon in Nautilus.

I have to do this manually by right-clicking and then associating the icon type with the file…for each and every file.

Can someone help me with this? I haven’t had a problem with associating file icons under KDE.

Is the program associated with the file .vi
Shown in the list, when you right click - properties - spanner icon

Labview Virtual Instrument
should be in the list and at the top of the list

Yep, the file type is associated with the application. When I double click…it launches Labview and shows the file.

I can change the icons individually…but not effect the changes throughout the system. Changing icons one-by-one is very painful as I have almost 1000 such files

The icons for the file type are placed in the /usr/share/pixmaps folder. For some reason the link between Labview and .VI file type isn’t done.

Strange

In the list of file extensions
do they look like this

*.vi

Yep…it does have the .vi extension for each file type.

I’m guessing this has something to do with the mime type? Where does Nautilus look for its icons? Pardon my ignorance as I’m a relative newbie to GNOME…been a long time KDE user.

what about the *
is that there too

Sorry for the late reply…yes…the * is also there.

Then I’m not sure what else can be done. Sorry.
Maybe someone else will know and see this thread now it’s been refreshed.
