I’ve just bought the ASRock Ion 330 and installed the Open Suse 11.2 on it.
Sound seems to be working. I’have 5.1 audio system with analog input, thus I’ve connected all 3 jacks at rear panel. But when I’m trying:
speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -l1 -twav
I hear only front right and front left sounds
Can anybody help me to setup 5.1 sound with analog output?

I documented my experience in exploring the functionality of surroundsound here: Exploring surround sound in Linux - openSUSE Forums
In particular, I found the following link very useful: Surround sound in Linux
I also found the file http://www.halfgaar.net/media/chan-id.zip very useful for testing.
I recommend you use the Packman packaged vlc player for your testing of surround sound, and if you get that to work, you can start playing around with other players and surround sound.
Let us know how your progress with this goes.

I note this works for my surround sound
speaker-test -c6 -Dplug:surround51 -t wav -l1
You could install xchat, then go to IRC freenode #alsa and ask some of the sound guru’s there.
