Asks for Admin and I am Administrator!

I am using Windows 7, 64 bit. Trying to install SUSE 12.2 from CD. Keeps telling me I am not Administrator. Tried the usual things. Mayday, Mayday!

The proper way to install is to burn the cd to a cd/dvd and boot the computer from the cd. I would use the windows partitioning tools to create some free space first though. Create and format a hard disk partition Please note you want to “shrink” the volume to create free space at the end of the drive, not format over it!

As @nightwishfan already explained, you do not install while using Windows and then using the CD from inside Windows (in whatever way). You install it by booting from the CD.

OK, I will not copy the DVD to yet another DVD (why???). But I will make the DVD be the bootable device. Thanks. Will advise results. Seems silly that you cannot activate it from Windows. Oh, well. I have a lot to learn!

Nobody tells you that. You just burn one DVD and boot from it. Or use
a USB stick as described in the instructions.

You don’t install a new operating system that way.

it is, of course, normal to use Windows to install new Windows software…

but, openSUSE is not Windows software. instead it is a completely
different operating system.

by booting from the DVD (or CD) you begin the process of installing the
new Linux operating system named openSUSE while running a specialized
version of the Linux kernel…

so, if you read on the download page <http://software.opensuse.org/>
below the big Download button, you will find lots of instructions on how
to proceed…one of those is: “Boot from the DVD or CD.”
