The purpose of this guide is to try and simplify what some have found to be a tricky process. There exist ‘OneClick’ options for this. Multimedia in One Click – You will be Working from Yast – Software – Software Management /& Repositories and or a terminal.
**Some basic Repositories You Must Have: **
These repositories should be in your repositories list from Installation.
If Not, add them.
Additional Repositories You will need:
Take note to remove the VideoLan repo if you have it
Packman above is from a Europe Mirror, you might want it local to you. In which case check here: Additional package repositories - openSUSE!
From the Beginning do this FIRST:
In a su - terminal ( What is a su - terminal? )
zypper ar -f http://opensuse-guide.org/repo/11.4/ libdvdcss
zypper ref
Accept the licence/key
zypper in libdvdcss
zypper ar -f http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/packman/suse/openSUSE_11.4/ packman
zypper ref
Accept key/licence

**Ultimately you need these 5 key repositories. **

Now we can move on to everything else:
But first you need to know something of the installation process. Using Yast – Software – Software Management you can filter by Repositories and so go to the repository you need to work from. In our case it will be the Packman Repository. Installed Packages have a tick in the check box, Packages with Blue text mean they are updates – Packages showing Red text mean they are roll-backs. In the case of a New Installation it is unlikely that there will be any Red packages.
Viewing the Packman repo in 11.4 you will see the switch feature which lets you switch vendor to Packman see: Switch to Packman Versions (we do this later)
To proceed with your multi-media installation do as follows:
You now need to mark for installation the following – some of which may auto add to install by dependency as you work through the list. (please remember some packages may not be available due to changes in packaging. We update this list regularly.)
A zypper option is:
zypper in lame libavcodec52 libavdevice52 flash-player ffmpeg gecko-mediaplayer libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 libquicktime0 libxine1 libxine1-codecs libxvidcore4 smplayer vlc w32codec-all xine-ui xvidcore

Having added all these My preference is to - Now go back to Software Management - Filter to Packman and do this: Switch to Packman Versions
Gnome looks different, see just below:
A zypper option would be:
zypper dup -r packmanObserve the alias correctly Eg; packman, as shown here or how it is in your repo list.

**I have done several trial Gnome installs and using the package switcher is the easiest option, but you must accept the removal of ‘transmission-common’ as shown here:
Allow removal of transmission-common
This list is by no means comprehensive and depending on your system and chosen desktop environment, you may need further adjustment. It should be noted that FLASHPLAYER is installed by default post install, with updates and should just work. If it does not - Post your question/problem in the forum.
