Are There Any Life, City or People Simulation Games for Linux?

Hi, I was wondering if there were any free online games (even if I have to download) that are like The Sims or Sim City? Any game where you build something and/or control people. (Theme parks, families, cities…) Anything really just nothing like “fighting, killing, blood…” haha. I mean don’t get me wrong maybe a fantasy game like WoW. I don’t mean to sound picky It’s just that I’m a gal. (I’m not exactly too girly either so, heck, lemme’ know about any game really!

Thanks in advance!!**

Try adding the Packman repo
You will need that for your multimedia anyway:

Once you have done that
Just search in software management

there is
Golly, a Game of Life simulator | Download Golly, a Game of Life simulator software for free at SourceForge.net
Golly Game of Life Home Page
or
gLife - An Artificial Life Simulation

Yes, but I don’t remember which one. I tried one of them time ago, didn’t
like it much, so now I don’t remember which it was, but I assume the first one.

It would be nice to a few of these games to choose from. I have an old game that I like quite a bit and played too often, too long into the night: Railroad Tycoon. I can no longer get it to work. I haven’t tried WINE in a few years since it was awful under WINE. I can’t get it to run at all in Virtualbox XP install or in a regular install of W2K Pro. I think the problem is DirectX. If WINE solves that, many Win sims will probably work in linux.

Having been motivated by this thread, I tried wine again. It runs my game nicely. There is one big annoyance, though. WINE does not seem to recognize my CD-ROM, so the game won’t start. If I use Dolphin to navigate to the .exe file inside the .wine folder, I can click on that and the game starts and plays normally. But that is the only way it will run. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? In winecfg, I see the drive as D: but it needs to be identified as /media and I cannot get that setting to stick. Haven’t been able to figure out where the vbox problem lies. I’ll get to that one next!

Simcity 4 works under Wine.

Simcity 3000 is ported to Linux.

It seems like its free to download it now: Sim City 3000 Unlimited for Linux free Download

Second Life has a native client for Linux, and AFAIK Sims 3 runs well under wine
