AR9285 Atheros driver

I’m struggling to get my wireless connection working. During an install of the compat-wireless-kmp-desktop driver a warning occurs:

WARNING: /lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.1-desktopp/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl12xx/wl12xx.ko needs unknown symbol_ieee80211_rx

and

Symbolieee80211_beacon_get

What can I do next to get this to work?

Running Opensuse 11.2 on Asus 1005PE.

What exact problem you have before installing the compat-wireless package?

AR9285 works out-of-the box without problem here with openSUSE 11.2.

Edit:
Post the wireless adapter section of

/sbin/lspci -vnn

need to see your PCI:ID

I understand that the AR9285 supposedly works out-of-the-box for opensuse 11.2. However, I have experienced the following problem:

I can identify and connect to various access points. When connected status is active. I can ping successfully to IP addresses. The difficulty arises when I attempt to use the internet via a web browser. I am told that the web browser is unable to connect to the server.

There are a few wireless access points that I can connect to and use a web browser - namely the wireless connection that I connected to during install.

I have downloaded updates, added the 11.2 wireless update repositories, and tried various madwifi drivers to no avail.

the command “/sbin/lspci -vnn” returns:

thanks in advance for your help.[/size]

I am also having issues with the same card. The issues i am having are random disconnects and poor signal strength. My machine is a emachine e627

on fix I have found for the random disconnects is to turn off power management for the card with the following command under root:
iwconfig wlan0 → to verify power management is on
iwconfig wlan0 power off → turns power management off
exit 0 → ofcourse to exit root

This is the only issue that I have on this system and I would like to thank the developers and community for such a great OS. A once long time ubuntu user now full time openSUSE user!!

here is the rest of my information that i left out in the last post:

The other info aren’t that important actually. But now I know we have the same wireless chipset

Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) [168c:002b] (rev 01)

It might be access point specific issues, since you did mentioned that you can connect to some access point and use the web browser.

Sorry, I have no idea what went wrong here… But you can try a few things like:

opensuse 11.2 and knetworkmanager - openSUSE Forums

NetworkManager doesn’t configure default route and nameserve - openSUSE Forums

Web Browsers not working - openSUSE Forums
