application conflict upon sound

Hi I am still having problems with getting sound to function during all applications.
When I installed 13.2 I had alsa sound but appart from system bell and beeps the following was happening:
Amarok complained about phonan backend can’t start.
gtkrecordmydesktop complained no jackd service
qjackd complained alsa and phoan not compatible with jackd
audiocity complained no sound driver available
cinerrella complained no valid sound driver
cdplay works but choppy
kwave fails due to no audio

found a thread under multimedia to change alsa to phonan which fixed Amorok and cdplay but gtkrecordmydesktop crashes due to no audio device
cinerella fails due to no audio device, audiocity fails due to no jackd, kwave still fails

I was hoping to attain the following under a single sound system:
kwave to edit audio files
ability to play music cd’s
Amorok to play music files
gtkrecordmydesktop to create some base training videos with audio
and cinerella to make full movies

Yast - sound has during various attempts shown as alsa stereo sound, pulseaudio, intel-ie969/ie970/ie973, and phonon but not all at the same time allowing selection.
11.1 and 11.2 didn’t have all these compatibility issues everything worked under alsa sound but the PC was a toshiba with ac97. Now I am on an acer using 13.2

Am I right that I need to delete all sound support (remove all ) and install a single type and if so which??

what should i try next please.
