Apple movie trailers suddenly fail

openSUSE 12.3 64 bit, fully updated.
Nvidia prop driver installed via one-click months ago.

Apple trailers have played fine since 12.3 was released ( iTunes Movie Trailers ),
both full screen and embedded.

The packman codecs are all up to date via YaST.

Apple made major changes to the trailer site in the last day or two - now trailers
no longer play. No messages are displayed, the screen simply fades out a little then hangs.

Anyone else experiencing this?
Any ideas?

Hi
Just tried here and it’s fine, is gstreamer-plugins-libav installed?

Yes, just checked and I see the same as you. Fades the screen and nothing else happens.

I didn’t have it installed but after installing doesn’t seem to make any difference.

It seems it is trying to load a quicktime plugin.
I use gecko media player to handle this.
What are you using as a browser media player plugin (in firefox)?

Hi
I’m using “SRWare Iron 28.0.1550.0 (Developer Build 209842)
custom” the plugin in use is totem-browser-plugin that loads quicktime.

I see the issue in Firefox…maybe they are blocking the user agent
string again?

Yes, gstreamer-plugins-libav is installed.
I use Firefox and Totem provides the Quicktime support.
I was never successful in getting the gecko stuff to work with
Quicktime in openSUSE 12.3 - that’s why I went to Totem.

It’s all good here
Using Chrome browser though

1 sec, let me check FF
Yes FFox is playback is busted!

konqueror does play the Apple trailers - sort of…
It plays them OK in the default window, but if you click to
view the video full-screen the video plays fine but hangs the
desktop (KDE) when the video finishes - the monitor remains black.
The only recovery method is to press ctrl-alt-del them select Logout
from the resulting pop-up.

Apple must have changed something because I’ve been viewing
their trailers a few times a week since I installed 12.3 last year.

It does work in Firefox ahem SeaMonkey with totem-vegas. I had to
disable all other plugin and then refresh the page to start video

GNOME 3.6.2
openSUSE Release 12.3 (Dartmouth) 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.7.10-1.16-desktop

last time I checked (about three or four weeks ago) apple trailers would play fine for me in Firefox using gecko media player.

Just checked in Raspbmc (XBMC - rasp Pi) and trailers are broken there as well, so apple have certainly made some recent changes that have broken things for a number of people.
Being apple I guess they probably only test on iDevices. lol!

I ran updates and rebooted today and FF is OK now.
I’m not 100% sure I gave FF enough time yesterday, because it looked like it wasn’t working today, but I waited and it came to life.

On click >Play
I get a dark greying of the entire screen, there is no apparent churning of process. But after about 15 seconds, it starts playing

And ! It’s playing better than in chrome, which suffers from jerky playback.

actually, I think it is more of a case of Apple fixed it some time today because I have made no system changes and now it is working fine for me in Firefox (with gecko media player).
Yesterday I certainly gave it about five to ten minutes and nothing played.

JFTR I use totem plugin in FF, even though I use KDE

I guess I should mention that yesterday there was no player UI but today the player UI loads instantly (as it did in the past) and the playback begins within 5 - 10 seconds.

Sadly, it still seems broken in raspbmc - but to be honest - I don’t really use apple trailers much as there are better alternatives.

Yes it does partially work today (FF and Totem plugins on KDE).

Yesterday I let it run while I made coffee (about 10 min), but it never
varied from the gray screen.

Today the screen dims for about 10 secs, then the embedded player
starts (small window), but no controls are visible - nor will they pop up
when hovering the mouse. However if I right click the video and select
“full screen” from the pop up menu, the controls do appear at the bottom
of the full screen playback.

Konqueror, however, does not display any controls in full screen mode,
and still hangs once the full screen video finishes.

As long as FF playback works in full screen mode, I’m good.
