Appimages and Zotero "permission refused" on start

I have been struggling with this for six months since switching to Tumbleweed.

Appimages are (or should be) part of my workflow. They refuse to start in Tumbleweed as does, to my intense annoyance, Zotero. Atom won’t start either.

If I click run, I get a popup asking which application should open them… if I try starting from console, I get the message “Permission denied”. Same for Zotero.

They will, however start under an admin account, but not in an account without privileges, which is my normal working environment.

None of the hacks I’ve found on the net work - one (using the admin account) gave me permission refused even when using “sudo”. I know it’s something to do with fuse and/or fusermount, but I don’t know how to deal with it.

Did you made them executable?

Make it executable and double-click it.

Additional:

Besides, every other location works, e.g., a USB thumbdrive, a network location, or a CD-ROM, but then the AppImages won’t be on your path, which means that you cannot simply type their name into a terminal but have to use the full path.

For zotero: Did you try the original package and followed the installation instructions: installation [Zotero Documentation]
