Anyone have frostwire working on openSuse 11.3?

I tried installing Frostwire 4.20 both through YAST and through the one-click install option on the packman site using YMP on opensuse 11.3. It seems to install fine, but when I put the icon on my desktop and click it, I an error. I was not able to capture the error, but there was several errors such as java.language.exception etc. My guess is that frostwire may require suns java, but even that seems difficult to install based on my quick google search.

Anyone have luck with this?

I don’t use it.

Try typing this in a terminal: frostwire

I guess that’s the launch for it. Report the content of the terminal

FYI: It’s easy to install Sun Java, but let’s get the terminal info first

as Frostwire is not offered in the repo’s i wonder how you did that??

what is the URL to that button for 11.3?? i can’t find it…

i could only find a button made to support openSUSE 11.0/10.3/10.2

i think you probably need to unstall all that and instead download and
compile the tar ball…

sun java is drop dead easy to install with YaST, just open it, and go
Software > Software Management…use the search to find java, mark to
install the Sun package and to uninstall the non-Sun

to capture the startup errors just open a terminal and enter the
command needed to launch, which i assume is frostwire…

but, you can learn the exact command yours is using by right click and
instpecting the launch icon’s properties…look for the applications
‘command’

leave the terminal open and you can closely inspect the errors and
solve each one, and, copy paste the unsolvable back to here…

i wonder what you found as deficient about the bit torrent openSUSE
11.3 is born with? that is, why do you want to go to all this trouble

Thanks for the help guys. It’s working now. I just had to install suns version of java through YAST. For some reason I couldn’t find it last time. Then I just removed the previous version of frostwire and installed it again through YAST software management.

I use ktorrent for torrents but I prefer frostwire for music.

I am trying to install frostwire with the Ubuntu package offered on their web sight Official FrostWire Installers Download - Free P2P BitTorrent/Gnutella Client - No Subscriptions, Just Download and Install - FrostWire.com

I copied all the files into there respective /usr … folders but when I launch /usr/bin/frostwire I get the following errors -

Something went wrong with FrostWire.
Maybe you’re using the wrong version of Java?
(FrostWire is tested against and works best with with Sun’s JRE, Java 1.4+)
The version of Java in your PATH is:
java version “1.6.0_20”
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.7) (suse-1.2.1-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)

Any ideas? I have Java installed and Mozilla has no problem finding it.

Found the oneclick frostwire install -
FrostWire - free opensource Gnutella client for openSUSE | SUSE & openSUSE

i think you probably need to unstall all that and instead download and
compile the tar ball…

and

I am trying to install frostwire with the Ubuntu package offered on their web sight

@(DD and 2fry): The frostwire RPM for 11.3 is in Packman repo

If you are downloading a variety of files at great speed, the best alternative is Ares

Except it’s an exe file.

Frostwire is available as a Linux dld from here: Official FrostWire Installers Download - Free BitTorrent Client - No Subscriptions, Just Download and Install - FrostWire.com - BitTorrent So Simple - Official Website
Dld the tarball, unpack, run the “sh” file named “frostwire”. No installation necessary. No RPM necessary.

If you think Frostwire is a replacement for Limewire, you’re in for a surprise.
