Anybody update their ATI drivers in 11.1?

Anyone know how I can update my ATI drivers in 11.1? The installers I find don’t have a package that I can get to work for 11.1.

I just d/loaded the 8.11 from the ATI site and it all worked fine on this machine pent 4HT + ATI X1550 card.

I presume you have followed the instructions and have all the needed stuff already ( gcc, make, kernel source etc… etc… )

Where do you find libstdc++? I have libstdc++3.3 but it failed the dependency check. I have libstdc+±devel, but that’s the closest I get. I also can’t find compat-libstdc++.

You should also have the

libstdc++43 - The standard C++ shared library
version installed which is from the Opensuse 11.1-0 repo.

You may just need that.

Have a look at /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log
It will tell you where the install failed

Also look at /usr/share/doc/ati/installer.html

In yast choose patterns in the dropdown menu choose patters and in development check kernel developmment accept that should give you all the packages you need to install the ati driver.

I figured out the problem, I didn’t have libstdc++3.3, I had 4.3. The error I received was failed dependencies for libstdc++.so.5 so I did zypper intall libstdc++.so.5 and viola, it dowloaded libstdc++3.3 and the install worked after that.

Next problem, when I run sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx sax2 crashes and my X server won’t start untill I remove the rpm. Any ideas? I am on an old laptop with a mobile raedon 9000 which the ATI site they stopped devolping for a while back.

Fraid I will have to pass on this one now, I have only been using an ATI card for a while I have no experience with the older stuff.

I cannot see a link on the ATI site to older versions that might have support for your card, and even then I dare say they would not be able to compile and function on the newer kernels.

I hope someone might jump in here though with a solution.

Have you tried:

sax2 -r -m 0-radeon

does that help, at least you will have a desktop but no eye-candy :frowning:

They have a driver that says it is the last file to support my card, but it don’t compile in anything newer than 10.2 (ish). I am not going to worry about it since the GM is right around the corner and with the default drivers my desktop is ok, I just don’t get GL rendering above 195 FPS which is only blocking me from getting my lovely burn effect.
