I noticed today, for the first time, that KMP have replacement ink cartridges for the HP cartridges for the HP All-in-one-Premium C309a printer that I own. I’ve never used such KMP cartridges (I’ve always used HP), as I am worried of poor quality that could break the printer, or reduce the high quality of printed images that I get from the printer.
Still, I note the price reduction of internet procured “KMP ink cartridges” over our local PC shop’s “HP ink cartridges” is signficant … but having stated that, I also need to investigate shipping costs.
Has anyone any experience with using KMP vs HP ?
Any bad stories ?
Any good stories ? (besides the better price).
wrt my HP C309a printer, this is what I noted [prices in Euros]:
HP CB321EE (364XL) = KMP TINTE H49 = Black* local PC shop - 27.99
mail order HP - 13.99
mail order KMP - 12.99
HP CB322EE (364XL) = KMP TINTE H50 = Black photo* local PC shop - 16.99
mail order HP - 12.40
mail order KMP - 8.95
HP CB323EE (364XL) = KMP TINTE H51 = cyan* local PC shop - 16.99
mail order HP - 12.40
mail order KMP - 8.95
HP CB324EE (364XL) = KMP TINTE H52 = magenta* local PC shop - 16.99
mail order HP - 12.40
mail order KMP - 8.95
HP CB325EE (364XL) = KMP TINTE H53 = yellow* local PC shop - 16.99
mail order HP - 12.40
mail order KMP - 8.95
The ‘mail order KMP’ cartridges are 40% cheaper than the price for genuine HP cartridges from our local PC shop.
I notice when I put in a new HP cartridge, that there is a message in the C309a display that it has detected a ‘genuine’ HP cartridge. Still, if HP printers reject KMP ink cartridgers, why would KMP sell the product ? Surely they don’t need bad stories and they do need repeat customers. …
… anyway, that is food for thought, and probably something I can search on. (ie “Printers reject KMP” or something like that).
I still don’t have a definitive answer, but it was a useful search …
I note the KMP site does NOT claim compatibility with the HP C309a printer that I own: KMP - Hewlett Packard and THAT is IMHO signficant.
I also note a 2year old thread in a forum, where they noted a chip (?) in the black cartridge was associated with checking the acceptability of the other cartridges (presumeably ‘black’ cartridge would have chip needed to check for ‘black-photo’, ‘cyan’, ‘magenta’, ‘yellow’) and if there was a mismatch between manufacturer’s/supplier’s of the cartridge, there would be a failure to use the replacement cartridge: Inkjet Printer Forum / Ink Jet Refill Forum / Which printers actually work with ARC?? List your models … but this is SPECULATION on MY PART and I don’t know this to be the case.
In any event, the lack of KMP claiming compatibility is enough to scare me off from trying.
Do you know if any KMP cartridges are recycled HP cartridges?
I was recently looking at UK prices for toner cartridge for a very old HP desktop laser printer. HP cartridge is just under £80, whereas a recycled version is under £30 (not KMP afaik). Apart from letters, I do very little printing these days. Both HP and recycled vendor claimed the same 3000+ pages at 5% coverage. I suspect the recycled wouldn’t last as long as HP original, but at £20 - £30 for recycled, I will go for recycled if only to find out.
Any experience with recycled cartridges? HP or otherwise.
I used to get my other hp ink cartridges, refilled at a wallgreens. When I tried to refill cartridges, for my hp photosmart c4700, they said that they
could’nt refill these hp 60 cartridges!
I see a trend here, there next line of printers will only work with HP Paper
Given the smaller price, it might be worth to buy a pair (black+color) and test them, not only if they work but how long they last. This is tricky as HP measure ink consumption by counting the number of microjet actuations, so it won’t matter if the quantity of ink in the cartridge is larger than in HP’s (and it usually is). This can usually be circumvented by reseting the cartridge, which many printers allow.
AFAIK all HP inkjet cartridges have the print head incorporated in them, so there’s no worry of clogging or the like.
