Any news on the release date for rc2?

I appreciate that the target release date is this Friday but has anyone any ideas on whether it is likely to be released on, before or after this date?

RC2 may be populated into the distribution repositories as this is written. KPackagekit, that amazing and annoying leap forward in software maintenance incorporated into 11.4, kicked out 1,561 updates this morning! I will give it a bit longer, for stragglers, and hoping that Packman gets up to speed soon.

I’ve just run an update from the factory-snapshot repos and sysinfo now tells me I have openSuse 11.4. No RC2 or 1, no Milestones - just plain 11.4. Are the guys at openSuse really confident about their latest release?
I must say I’ve had almost no trouble with 11.4 which I’ve been running since M3. A great job!

Zypper dup’ed from the 11.4 distribution repositories confirms 11.4 sans RC2. A few messages concerning san serif and serif fonts for Korean, Japanese and two Chinese fonts were the only messages of interest.

KDE seems OK all-around. Gnome touchpad seems slushy, and responds somewhat to adjustment(s). This Gnome touchpad behavior seems to recur, first with each Milestone and also with -RC1.

Is that a viable path through all the RC’s? Sure would save some download
time if so but I was unsure how the the timing of those repos matched the
releases.

Viable ? I cannot say, though Kpackagekit indicated 1562 updates. A check with zypper indicated a larger number (1592) of updates, with only one (1) downgrade: zypper indicated that openSUSE 11.4 would be downgraded ( ? ). All the updates applied (with only the font messages referenced earlier) cleanly.

The downloading (actually, “retrieiving”) segment seemed intermittently slow. The actual install quick and smooth.

Subsequent boot successful, and everything shows openSUSE 11.4 without any RC or M appended.

A new base kernel, 2.6.37.1-1.2, replaces 2.6.37-20.
