A couple of months ago it was announced that Broadcom released an open source driver for their wireless chipsets.
Does anyone know if anything further has come of this?
e.g.
has it started to appear in the repos of any distros?
has there been community work on it too?

The only Broadcom open-source drivers are brcm80211 for the BCM4313, and a
second driver for a device with a full hardware MAC. I do not know what they
call it. Broadcom still does not open the source contained in wl, nor do they
allow redistribution of their firmware. These are in kernel 2.6.37 and will
appear in openSUSE 11.4. Brcm80211 is also backported to compat-wireless.
On a related note, the b43 team reached another milestone yesterday when a
14e4:432b device actually worked, thus all the Broadcom 802.11n devices should
now work with the latest version of b43 in wireless-testing. At present, there
is a bug in packets with OFDM rates, thus it is limited to 11 Mb/s, and it has
trouble with WPA/WPA2 encryption, but these difficulties should not be too
difficult to overcome. These changes will be in 2.6.38, and have also been
backported with compat-wireless.
