Any "gotcha"s with an openSUSE ASP.Mono server?

I am realizing that in a few months I am going to have to come up with a system for managing an Auction.

As an ASP.NET programmer during the day (and Linux user at night  ) I was thinking that by going with .NET I could probably code something up pretty quickly.

Then it got me thinking, what about an openSUSE Server running Apache and mod_Mono plus either a MySQL or PostgreSQL database (instead of SQL Server)? I would probably end up using Visual Studio (Express) for the actual development.

Anybody have any (constructive) suggestions or experience? Any "gotcha"s I should keep an eye out for? Or does this sound like it won’t work, and I should just look at using Windows (XP pro) instead? I mean for the server, while the development will be on another machine.

First, I’m NOT an asp.net developer, nor plain ole .net, C# etc…

However, I have seen people that ARE… and they use MonoDevelop
and they seem to be pretty comfortable and they are able to whip
together very impressive web apps is just a matter of seconds…

So… I’ll say go for it.

Joseph Hill was (is) a member of our LUG, he’s the real
deal. He’s a .net migrant to Linux and now Mono Project
Manager. He’s credible… and I’ve always enjoyed his
NON-FUD presentations on why Mono is a good thing (as it
brings a LOT of Microsoft developers to Linux).

So, Mono or no-Mono (which sounds funny if you pronounce
Mono correctly), Mono helps bring more people to Linux and
FOSS. I say, enjoy and let us know how it all works out.

I’m not afraid to say I know a Microsoft developer that’s
now using Linux… not afraid at all!!!
