Pidgin should definitely work… it’s what I use for all of the
services I use. A quick Google search gave me this link:
http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/pidgin?page=0%2C1
Good luck.

I thought Kopete did both msn and yahoo, and it should be installed by default shouldn’t it?
It is in opensuse, not sure about the commercial version though.

If using KDE I think kopete is installed by default… Pidgin
definitely is if using Gnome… maybe both are installed in any case
but I don’t know for sure. With SLED 10 SP2 you may need to add Pidgin
explicitly (used to come w/Gaim but Pidgin was added alongside it for
those who wanted something more-current, thankfully) but that’s not the
problem the OP is having I guess so maybe this is all null and void
rambling…
Good luck.

Give a try to Kopete!! It works great for me!
aMSN does MSN very well including Webcam…
Yeah, it’s good but it doesn’t do Yahoo, does it?
I would like to thank you all for your time and replies in pointing me towards some alternative IM programs. It was much appreciated especially when i’m totally new to Linux, it isn’t as bad as I feared it would be i’m actually preferring it over Microsoft vista and xp already YAY! My boyfriend is already nagging me to install another program heh what a learning curve for sure but as he said it will be worth it.
Thanks all and hope you have a wonderful day/night.
