Another filemanager than Dolphin?

Hi!
I use OS11.1 with KDE4.2 Release99.

It is starting to work ok now after some updates, but Dolphin is still CRAP.

Problem that should be fixed very soon is:

  • Missing Tilebar (cannot minimize or window
  • Dolphin lock the whole activ virt-desktop. You cant open other app-windows over Dolphin.
  • Dialog-boxes from Dolphin doesnt open in main window. I have to switch to another virt-desktop to open a Dolphin-dialog-box.
  • Its very slow to show files in a folder

The filemanager in earlier OpenSUSE was like heaven compare to Dolphin!
So can i replace it with another Filemanager until Dolphin is been completed and bugfixed?

you can use konqueror in the mean time. it’s the filemanager/browser you used to use.

This can happen (with various apps) when CompizConfig Settings Manager has the following setting:

Utility > Workarounds > Legacy Full Screen Support enabled

Once disabled this problem should disappear.

Well! I did some research and found out about this problem with Compiz.
Now is Dolphin working ok!

Thanks!

You’ll get the version for KDE3 by default. It is possible with some
tinkering to get the KDE4 version to appear in the menu but I’d recommend
sticking to the old version as the other is pretty flaky - getting worse if
anything.

KDE4.2 Release99.

So why not update.

I have not experienced any problems at all. I have kwin/compiz effects and it’s just slick and smooth. But certainly some have had issues with effects enabled.

Dolphin has been a great step forward in my opinion. Split screen columns with details and Preview, Folders and Places and terminal view too. Lots of detail and a lovely look.

try Krusader…

If you are looking for a fast file manager try thunar.
