I’m just three months into my opensuse experience and the beginning wasn’t half bad. However, I’m starting to run into several problems now with weird behaviour.
First of all I have to say I have a macbook pro, and probably this is one of the reasons, because my set-up is not particularly optimised (read as: he never bothered optimising at all)
The most amazing anomaly is on mplayer. You would think the macbook pro had a gyroscope of something because small vibrations cause it to perceive events. On the console they come up like JOY STICK movements. Honestly, you couldn’t program that if you tried.
And this behaviour also leads to the keyboard just failing to affect mplayer at all. I have to “Ctrl+C” to get out instead of “q”.
I reckon I should get a prize for that one … gyroscopic behaviour on macbook pro!
Next up is more boring it’s just a seq fault and core dump from xpdf. a quick peek via gdb shows that libpoppler may be the cause … I actually thought that xpdf didn’t use libpoppler but there you go. I have to use the slower evince instead.
My setup is such a mess (I unwisely did some kernel updates a while back).
Next I was also getting prboems with firefox hanging and running on 100% CPU. Well OK, I shouldn’t be surprised at that but then I went and yast-installed opera, and it also hung!
My setup is such a mess (I unwisely did some kernel updates a while back) that anything could be causing this mayhem.
But I decided to post just in case you get a prize for this stuff
If you lost confidence in current install ( I don’t know what kernel-updates etc ), reinstall, add update repo, update all. Then login and get back to us on any problem, preferably in separate threads per problem. We will try to help you.
I also would have mentioned imagemagick (the display command), but there’s always anomalies in that, so I won’t bother (let it be said imagemagick is a fantastic package, I use it all the time, but it has its quirks built-in so to speak.
Interesting about the update repo coming up as 100%, This priority “thing” must be important - I’ve put it down to 99% now and dine a zypper up.
Knurpht, by re-install, do you mean actually reinstall v11.2 all over again?
