I got this error
An error occurred while initializing the software repository
Details:
/etc/zypp/repos.d/Packman_repository_(openSUSE_11.2).repo:Line 2 is missing’='sign Try again?
what is wrong??? :shame:
when the YaST2 started there is no any repository and I tried to added new repository I got the error
Adding repository Main Repository (OSS) failed
Now you could have some sort of corruption occur or even run out of disk space perhaps. But most often I have only a couple of problems. One, the local network is very busy when you have more than one computer and someone else is hogging all of the bandwidth or your have a WAN connection problem. Second, you have more than one program trying to access the package manager. This can happen if your update program is running in the background while you try to manage your repositories or you are trying to manage your repositories while having the Software Management application already running.
Make sure your WAN/Network is OK, disk space is OK and you are not trying to run more than one software update/management tool open at a time.
OK, tell us what version of openSUSE are you using now. Have software updates ever worked for you? How long has this copy been loaded before this problem showed up? When you say you have no software repositories when run YaST the screen is blank of all automatically entered values, not even the CD you loaded SuSE from is there? And as for disk space, just because you loaded SuSE on a 20 GB hard drive does not mean you could not be out of space. I keep all of my media files on a separate partition from SuSE, even so I see that my disk usage is up to 19 GB, that would be close on a 20 GB partition. How much space is your installation using?
Now remember we are trying to help you here and the more information you give the better chance it will be that we might find a solution for you.
it is openSUSE11.2 x86_64
software updates ever worked for you? I think it work only one time
How long has this copy been loaded before this problem showed up? not too much I think it loaded not more than 10 times
about the space of the partition
it is a new installation and I have another partitions which I put any multimedia or any files on it so I sure it has a big space
I have the same problem… IBM dual xeon server 4MB ram, 80GB hd… 10.3 currently loaded nothing else, been running for over year on T1 network, never noticed repository prob until deciding to upgrade to 11.2… also noticing now that server wont boot to new 11.2 cd as well
I get the same, but usually with packman.be repo. It could be a slow connection to the repo that causes a timeout because it usually finds it next time the auto update runs.
Well first, I would ask everyone to open a Super User Terminal Session (must enter root password) or a regular session and su and then the root password. Then while in terminal enter the command “zypper refresh”. Capture the results and post it in your next message here. Perhaps this will show what the error might be.
Also consider that update sources must be entered properly in to the Software Repository application. For instance take the address for packman “http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/11.2/” would brake down as:
Now it is not uncommon to have issues during a refresh ever so often and have to do a retry. But it is a real problem if you are unable to enter any repositories without having an error message.
Unexpected exception.
/etc/zypp/repos.d/Packman_repository_(openSUSE_11.2)
.repo: Line 2 is missing ‘=’ sign
Please file a bug report about this.
See Zypper/Troubleshooting - openSUSE for instructions.
When I tried to added the packman Repository as you show the error "Unable to create repository from URL’http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/11.2/’ Change the URL and try again?
Since the update problem occurred, have you reloaded SuSE and was this an upgrade attempt or a new install? In general when an install of SuSE goes wrong, I will then try a complete new install and I avoid doing any upgrades. If I had this problem, I would copy all important data to a separate partition and try again. Further more, if it occurred more than once after doing a new install, I would think I had a hard drive problem of some sort.
Reloading SuSE is not something you want to hear, but the effort to fix an installation gone bad can take longer than just starting over. In my case, it takes about five hours from start to finish to put everything back as it should be. If the same problems pops up again, then either I have bad hardware or I am installing an application, not included in the standard load, that is not compatible with the present version of openSUSE.
I’m sorry I’ different than you I can spend 10 hours to fix the problem
so I open the Packman_repository_(openSUSE_11.2) under /etc/zypp/repos.d/ by super user kwrite and on line 2 there was “]” just on this line so I put it to the end of the line 1 and save the file and I lunched the YaST2 so every thing goes fine
and also the update is fine rotfl!
Hey “ttaghattass” I am happy that you found the updating problem. As for spending 10 hours to fix something, if you find the time enjoyable, then you should do what you like. I will say that digging into the internal works is a good way to learn how it all works and what can go wrong. The more knowledge you have about openSUSE, the more likely you will not make things worse trying to fix a future problem.
As for the time overall, I work in a business where you must consider the time to fix something over what it takes to start over. No matter the problem, if you can get to where you need to be faster by starting over, that is what I do. None the less, openSUSE for many of use is a hobby, one we do not mind spending extra time on if it means we are learning something new. I do thank you for coming back and sharing your success with the forum.
