Just when starting to like Opensuse, I keep getting more and more issues, and can’t even seem to do software manager without them sigh, seems like I spend more time trying to FIX stuff rather than enjoy it and use it. Getting this error on Tumbleweed firing up Software Management app:
An error occurred during repository initialization.
[http-download.opensuse.org-b2a29784|http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory/snapshot/] Valid metadata not found at specified URL
Tried googling for alternative URL to use and can’t find it? Getting frustrating people, might just ditch this and go to Kubuntu lol. Using 64bit Tumbleweed, Dell Optiplex 755, 8gb ram, 1tb hdd. Should I use this url instead? http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/
Forgot to include, it’s KDE version, did LVM / encryption method. But probably will go with Kubuntu tomorrow, and it easier to do LVM during installation with that, versus opensuse. I’ve used Ubuntu / Kubuntu before and had less headaches and issues and less fixings
You would probably be happier with 13.2 rather then tumbleweed. You do understand that Tumbleweed is perpetually in beta. If you don’t like experimentation and want long term support use 13.1 which will turn into evergreen at some point. 13.2 is stable and support for the next year or so.
Repo errors may occur if the mirror you use (being directed to) is being updated. Usually just wait a while and try again. Also in Tumbleweed because it is constantly moving you do not updates using Yast or zypper but do a zypper dup (distro update)
Did you remember to switch the repos from the factory repos to the Tumbleweed repos? That was supposed to be done by last May. From your report, it looks as if you might be using factory repos.
If you are not sure, post the output from
# zypper lr -d
and put them in a code block.
If you did not make that repo change, and assuming that you setup Tumbleweed early enough that you used factory repos, then it might be that you are now getting untested Factory snapshots instead of Tumbleweed tested snapshots. (I’m not sure about that last bit (“untested …”), but I think that was the plan).
You’re a condescending little prick ain’t ya? Like the last thread of mine, talking to me like I need hand held, diaper changed, as you know what’s best for me cause I’m an idiot, etc etc… Excuse me for being a little frustrated after 5 to 6 back to back installations of this OpenShit software in 3 days time frame. And spending most of that time googling to fix issues, errors, and whatever the hell else. I basically already knew Rolling Turd was a “beta”, but didn’t magically know to use Zypper Dup rather than YAST etc. Excuse me for expecting or assuming a proper update is done the normal route of zypper update / Yast, etc.
One thing that I wasn’t taught in school, was to mind read. I apologize for being frustrated about OpenShit’s ****** happenings which in turn makes me a little frustrated. But I can live with software expectancy of ****ing up some times, but you’ll end up being the other reason why I ditch it, because you’ll never be “fixed”, you’ll always be here being the same condescending ******* that makes me, and I’m sure others, not want to be here to get support. Everyone can thank gogalthorp for me ditching OpenShit totally now. I was actually going to wake up, looking to do yet another fix and be on my way with OpenSuse… but nah, gogalthrop changed my mind (he can go **** himself too). Kubuntu here I come.
If you (staff) want people stay longer using your software, remember to get rid of gogalthrop the condescending, know all of everything in the world, little prick.
Didn’t know I had to change anything from factory to something else? Lol I’ve been doing install after install getting more and more frustrated with it, than anything else, and wasn’t sure to change anything factory, always assumed that’s a bad thing changing things from factory… Lol.
There is no staff here we are volunteers and no way to know if you are an expert or a beginner. So I answer the questions as I see them . it certainly sounded like you were in over your head. and to tell the truth still seems that way. To be honest I don’t care if you stay or leave or not. With your attitude I won’t try and help you any more.
That sucks staff aren’t here, they should be in community seeing user’s issues first hand to maybe help them in long run, and provide feedback to users. But see, there’s that condescending (calling me idiot) verbal **** again, that I’m in over head, that I don’t know what I’m doing BS. Of course there will be attitude from my side, when users like you reply to them like this, and of course normal frustration from software issues. It’s expected. It just means I need to get more familiar with OpenSuse and learn things as things change with it, I’m not an idiot though. I’ve used Linux for long time, just admittedly is first time using OpenSuse / & Tumbleweed (a rolling release).
I didn’t mix them though, I chose those during install, figuring that’s what is expected to be used and working properly… Lol. Not sure where those others came from to be honest, cause I got error from the one (that was pre-installed with it), so used alternative / or so I thought, for that broken repo url.

Forum staff are also non paid volunteers. And they actually do all that
you claim they should do.
