Hi,
I’ve been reading GPU driver comparisons on the net for a while, but I couldn’t find any information on how they compare concerning temperatures.
I’m not interested in 3D acceleration - the performance of the open source driver is just fine for me. However, my laptop’s cooling system is quite loud.
Powersaving is also a problem for me, as for the open source driver I have to use the command ‘echo low > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile’.
I’ve tried both solutions, but I could not find a proper way to test this myself. Either way, my laptop is loud under pressure - it has a ATi 4650 Mobility GPU with a C2D P8800 CPU. 60 °C is the idle temperature of my laptop.
Edit:
Idle temperatures are not that bad.
