Amd cpu, nvidia gpu and installing tumbleweed

Previous system = Intel/Nvidia i5 8400 1660 super
Current system = AMD/Nvidia r7 7700x 4070 super

Previous system had absolutely zero issues installing. upon entering the desktop, you would open yast and install what was pre-selected and it was always nvidia proprietary drivers for me that were already selected. Click ok, reboot, It works flawlessly. I love tumbleweed. this cpu has integrated graphics as well but was never a problem.

Current system. Upon entering the desktop for the first time. I realize it says AMD inegrated graphics in nvtop and my gpu is no where to be found. ok… i’ll disable iGPU in bios. Go back to run nvtop. “No GPU to monitor” …hmm okay…

after a couple hours late last night, I don’t remember where I found it but I had to put this in kernel command line parameters in yast.

nvidia_drm.modeset=1 nvidia_drm.fbdev=0

after doing that and rebooting, everything is working perfectly. while troubleshooting this, it was pretty clear from reddit posts etc that I needed to add nvidia_drm.modeset=1 but i did that and it hung at the splash screen. further into the rabbit hole i read something about nvidia_drm.fbdev=0 on a random post and think if this doesn’t work theres no way i’ll get it. and it worked!! my current system is set up like my old system was and im super happy with it.

i just wanted to share my experience with that. maybe i missed the info about nvidia.drm-modeset=1 and nvidia_drm.fbdev=0 along the way but its not very intuitive. maybe someone can point me in the right direction for future reference. in the end, i love tumbleweed and it was worth the struggle.
