Amarok’s video applet isn’t working for me, it tries to play a selected video but only shows a blank background in the applet. This function worked in earlier versions of Amarok / KDE. I’ve tried Gstreamer, VLC and Xine phonon backends with same result. I don’t think it is codec related as video/flash playback is fine in other apps. Any solutions to this frustrating problem gadly accepted.
Currently using Suse 11.3 x86_64 / KDE 4.5.5 / Amarok 2.4.0 with xine backend
Thank you jdmcdanie13 for pointing me in the direction of mmcheck, a very useful script. With the exception of a few minor gstreamer tweaks (I use xine backend) my multimedia set-up is pretty sound and has never caused me any problems. I think my issue it buried somewhere else in the system, when running amarok with debug it basically reports amarok’s video applet is stopped and phonon is unable stream from the url. I guess for now I’ll keep searching.
I also have this problem since opensuse 11.3 and now again on opensuse 11.4. All multimedia works great except for the video applet of amarok. I can play flash just fine in mplayer.
When try to watch a video in amarok, it shows a loading indicator for a few seconds and then stops. Amarok doesn’t crash.
Does anyone know a solution?
Here is some output from amarok --debug:
amarok: BEGIN: void EngineController::slotStateChanged(Phonon::State, Phonon::State)
amarok: [WARNING] [EngineController] Phonon failed to play this URL. Error: ""
amarok: [WARNING] [EngineController] Forcing phonon engine reinitialization.
amarok: BEGIN: void EngineController::initializePhonon()
amarok(7353)/kio (KIOJob) KIO::SimpleJob::doKill: KIO::TransferJob(0x2855f20) This is overkill.

Here is some output from amarok --debug:
I have never used Amarok to watch a video, only to play audio files. I am not sure it is designed to even watch videos. Why not pick a different player such as VLC, Totem, Kaffeine, Xine, Gxine or smplayer instead?
because it is a very nice feature. I don’t use amarok to play local video files. I want to use amarok to fetch a video clip for the currently playing track. That is what the video plugin of amarok is all about.
If only it would work…
