Amarok playback too fast

Hello everyone,

I’m having an issue with playback in Amarok 2.3 on openSUSE 11.3. When using xine, Amarok will playback songs very quickly, probably something like 3X-4X faster than it should be. There is also no audio output when it does this. Using gstreamer it plays back at normal speed, but also without audio output. I’ve done some searching for this problem, but haven’t found anything helpful. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Below I’m listing all the multimedia/codec packages that I have installed.

Hi,

Did you follow this excellent and necessary tutorial : Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide ? it should help you solve you problem.

I just followed everything in that tutorial for 11.3 and I’m still having the same problem.

I am not in front of my openSUSE right now, so I can’t tell you how is my audi engine are set up.

You are using ALSA or Pulse Audio?

I’m not sure, but I think I’m using whatever the default is for 11.3. How do I determine if I’m using ALSA or Pulse Audio?

Ok, if you did nothing after the installation, you are using ALSA.

In config system->Multimedia->Engine tab, make sure that xine is at the higher position.

If it fails, try installing Pulse Audio. Reboot and test Amarok again.

… + or both.

I tried Pulse Audio and that didn’t work either. I ended up doing a fresh install of 11.3 (before I had just updated 11.1) and installing the codecs according to the tutorial above, and now everything works fine. Not sure what the problem was, but at least it works now.

Maybe related to the videolan repo you activated. This repo is incompatible with packman and maybe it mess all up. It a supposition.

I am glad that after a reinstallation everything works fine.
