Amarok ID3 problem

Hi,

I’m having a bit of a problem with Amarok under OpenSuse 11.2

I’ve added my music folder under the collections tab in the settings. Amarok scans through and finds all my music files, except it doesn’t seem to detect my ID3 tags. I get a huge list of music and amarok displays the file name, but has no basic information such as artist, song title, album art. It can’t fetch lyrics. The same happens if I drag and drop the folder into the playlist.

Does anyone understand what’s happening?

Having had some issues with Amarok under 11.2, I can suggest the following:

  1. Are the tags actually missing? Try checking with another music program.
  2. If the tags are damaged, try using a program like mp3diags. This may be able to recover them.
  3. Don’t, whatever you do, use the “Organise files” function in Amarok, as this caused all my mp3s to loose their tags and their file extensions. Real bad juju.
  4. I raised some bugs in OpenSUSE Bugzilla, and was told to raise them at KDE. I was told there to upgrade to the latest version of Amarok, which I did (from the OpenSUSE backports repository). I no longer have any serious issues. One minor thing is that the OpenSUSE branding is gone.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps also check how your playslist is set to be displayed. There used to be a possibility to configure what information should be showed: artist, composer, file location, album etc.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice. The issue seems to have gone away for now. I think the issue has something to do with the fact that my music is on an external drive, and every artist in separate folders. Anyhow, things seemed to be fixed for now. If it keeps reverting to being broken I might file a bug report.
