I’ve just finished installing 11.2, and as far as I understand, I’ve configured my sound card (Audigy 2 ZS)…at least I do have system sounds. I attempted to use Amarok to stream audio over my cable connection (3.3Mbps). I enabled everything that I could find in the sound mixer and unmuted all, but I still get no streaming audio, even though Amarok indicates that it is receiving the station. What is it that I haven’t done?
Did you add the multi media additions?
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums
It has been so long since I have touched Linux, that I have reverted to a total noob. I tried to add both of the repositories listed on that page, but I did something wrong, because it said that it was invalid. I would give a screenshot, but I don’t know how to make that work yet either. For instance…in the repository name, I entered Packman; in server name, I entered http://packman.jacobs-university.de/suse/11.2/; and in Directory on Server, I entered index of/suse/11.2. I have no idea of if or what port to enter. Would you unscramble these for me?
Please post the result of this from a terminal
zypper lr -d
Then I will give you instructions on how and what to do

You need to open a terminal and become su (here is how, just in case)
Become su in Terminal - HowTo - openSUSE Forums
do this:
zypper ar -f http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/11.2 vlc
zypper in libdvdcss
zypper rr vlc
zypper ar -f http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/packman/suse/11.2/ packman
zypper in libavcodec52 ffmpeg libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 libffmpeg0 libquicktime0 libxine1 libxine1-codecs libxvidcore4 smplayer vlc w32codec-all xine-ui xvidcore
see how you get on
If asked, accept any vendor changes to packman
If you have trouble with the last zypper command, go to the multi-media guide and with software management - add each package and then report back here

It seemed to take forever, but it appeared that everything downloaded and installed okay, but when I returned to Amarok, instead of just no sound, it seemed to lock up. I then noted the last line on the zypper run, which said that some files were in use by some app(s), and since I had closed Amarok, I had no idea of which app(s) were meant, so I restarted the OS and tried Amarok again.
This time it didn’t lock up, but it was just as in the beginning and had no sound output…what next?
Let me check your repos
zypper lr -d
If you are kde, which I suspect you are
did you do this step, software management, filter the view to repository and select packman and click the switcher
http://tinyurl.com/yejwull
Check your mixer (kmix) in the panel, make sure Master and PCM are not muted and the volume is up to about 70%
Packman is included in the repositories:

When I went to the repositories in YaST, and click the link to switch system packages, it produced a window listing problem to be resolved by uninstalling/installing old/new files, but it would not let me copy the list so that I could paste them here. The options are somewhat confusing…do I just uninstall the old and install the new?
As far as Kmixer goes, as I said at the beginning, everything is enable, unmuted and at max volume.
In the error box there is a expert button that allows you to save to file
Then copy the info from the saved file to here
I was going to do that, but it is such a large file, that I looked for a way to attach it instead, without any luck. Here it is"

FYI
use pastebin for large text lists
I don’t understand what pastebin is or how to use it?
I think that I figured it out:
YaST2 conflicts list - ge - Conflicts.txt - YPLBKDFj - Pastebin.com](http://pastebin.com/YPLBKDFj)
I gave you the first two answers
what happens when you answer those and press try again?
It shortened the list some, but not much:
YaST2 conflicts list - ge - Conflicts2.txt - 0Q6L36V8 - Pastebin.com](http://pastebin.com/0Q6L36V8)
OK - sod this, it’s impossible for me to go back and forth on this.
Try just doing this
zypper dup
Considering that you are jumping ship on me, it leaves me wondering what zypper dup does?
NO
I’m not jumping ship!
dup = distro upgrade
trust me
It may iron out some shyty stuff you have in there.
Post what it wants to do if you like
