Amarok and audio cds

Hi!!

Amarok won’t recognize audio cds. Device notification applet shows the option to play cd with amarok when i insert one, amarok pops up but doesnt show the cd.

Amarok plays perfectly anything that is in my hard drive, flac, wav, mp3, etc, but no audio cd.

Audatious, vlc and kaffeine do play audio cds fine, though.

I’m using Amarok 2.4.0 on KDE 4.6.0, opensuse 11.4

Is there anything that can be done to work that out?

Strange, it works here

This sounds familiar! See: CD errors (I think?)

No solution yet…

Regards, Martin

I’ve got the same problem here on openSUSE 11.4 x64 and Arch Linux, both running KDE 4.6 and Amarok 2.4.1. In my case the tracks from the CD are listed on the left but none of them will play. I posted this in the KDE forums as well, but no love there.

If you are running Arch, I’m going to assume you already know enough to know you need the multimedia codecs.
Does the track actually play, is it progressing? and there is just no sound?

Yes, I have the codecs, gstreamer plugins, etc. It seems to be a problem with KDE 4.6 and/or Amarok 2.4.1. I have also Mandriva 2010 which is using older KDE and Amarok and it works fine. With KDE 4.6/Amarok 2.4.1 the CD shows up on the left but won’t play, no sound, no progress.

Just for the record, here is my system

rpm -qa amarok
amarok-2.4.0-8.11.3.x86_64
kernelcruncher@114-kde:~> kde4-config -v
Qt: 4.7.1
KDE Development Platform: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) “release 6”
kde4-config: 1.0

Thanks for the reply; here’s mine:

rpm -qa amarok
amarok-2.4.1-12.1.x86_64
linux-vze3:/home/dlouhy # kde4-config -v
Qt: 4.7.1
KDE Development Platform: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) “release 6”
kde4-config: 1.0linux-vze3:/home/dlouhy #

So switch to the older version of amarok, easy done

What’s the best way to do that?

Yast > Software > Software Management
search amarok
highlight amarok

Click the version tab and select the OSS version
SUSE Paste

You may be asked to switch other packages by dependency.

You must have a OBS kde repo supplying amarok

Just tried that. No go, same issue. I need to downgrade to 2.3.

No
Please post your repo list:

OK

So it’s really up to you. How much do you need amarok to play CD’s. Personally I never do use CD’s. Only when I get questions like this in the forum

k3b will ripp the CD in no time and then you just add it to your library. Much better, no CD noise either.

But to fix it. Disable the updated apps repo and roll back every package in it.
Then do this for good measure

(You may have to opt to keep obsolete linphone)

Thanks for the help. I think I’ll not downgrade all of that and just rip the CDs. To change to Packman I have to keep obsolete linphone and clucene-core or uninstall clucene. What do you think?
