Recently i installed kde 4.2.i operate opensuse 10.3.Although amarok 1.4.7 in kde 3.5.10 i have sound i don’t with amarok 2 in kde 4.2.Can somebody give me any advice?

Do you have sound with any other programs or when you login and logout? Or is it just amarok?

Media player plays just fine!When i login and logout i have sound no problem…Programs though like amarok,Juk(jukbox),ksCD have no sound!!

I wonder whether we got the same problem. My Amarok 2 installation is also not playing my sound files, albeit under openSUSE 11.1 (KDE 4.2.4).
Does your time indicator move at all? Mine doesn’t (except for one file which plays fine). I’ve posted under this thread:

check your sound settings in KDE4 Control center -> Multimedia -> Backend
set it to Xine, if you don’t have Xine in there, install the Xine Phonon backend

did you even read what I wrote above? Check if Xine is set as backend in kde4 control center -> multimedia
also libxine must come from the packman repo, same goes for xine-phonon-backend package
If from Packman which it should be as micro said, it will be:

phonon-xine-backend libxine1,libxine1- codecs are installed!But the promblem still remains the same…Something that made me impression
was when i changed from kde 4.2.4 to kde 3.5.10 and started amarok/kde3, a popup would shown up saying something like:xine engine couldn’t play mp3’s so i switched to yauap engine and everything was ok!!Do you think that tere is some connection?Do i miss packages?
Something else i also noticed that tere is no phonon-backend-xine in packman repository only in KDE:4.2 repository.

I don’t quite understand what your system environment is. Am I right that you are using (a) openSUSE 10.3, and that you have both (b) KDE 3.5 with Amarok 1.x, and (c) KDE 4.x with Amarok 2 installed?
Both Amarok versions use different packages, so even if you get an error message from Amarok 1.x, it has no bearing on your Amarok 2 installation.
What you need for Amarok 2:
(1) phonon-backend-xine (from KDE:42 repo – you are correct there; make sure that you’ve chosen xine under: Start Menu > Applications > Configure Desktop (Personal Settings) > General > Multimedia > Backend (the other option there will most likely be GStreamer).
(2) libxine1 (from packman repo)
(3) libxine1-codes (from packman repo).
If you got all that, you should be set.
Perhaps you could paste your output for “sudo zypper search -is xine”?

Yes,i’ve got both kde 3.5 and 4.2 with amarok 1.4 and amarok 2 respectively!
I also tried to start amarok from terminal and i got this:

Amarok 2 is a KDE 4 application, so if you are running both KDE 4 and KDE3, it’s probably better to run Amarok 2 under KDE 4 (although in theory it shouldn’t matter).
I didn’t see the package phonon-backend-xine in your printout, make sure it’s installed (from KDE:42 repo), and that you changed your multimedia setting (see my previous post). You’ll need that for running Amarok 2.
I’ve forgotten a lot about Amarok 1 / KDE 3.5 already, but I believe you need package “amarok-xine” for it to run properly. Make sure you install it from Packman repo. (I think there’s also a package ‘amarok-packman’ for installing Amarok 1 from Packman repo. You could try using that one).
