amarok 2.1.1, SUSE 11.2 no audio, and no mp3

Hi all,

I am using amarok 2.1.1 with SuSE 11.2 and when I go in to amarok no audio. If I configure amarok, select my sound card and click test, I hear sound.

Nothing appears to be muted, I can go to smplayer and get audio, even when starting KDE4 I get audio.

As for the mp3 issue I went to one of those 11.2 1-clicks and allowed everything, but what they don’t discuss is what to do in case there is a package conflict. Which I had, so 1-click although, nice is a failure because us new folks on the block don’t want to break our systems because of package conflicts.

Do I need to downgrade to 1.4x to get this to work?

Ideas?

Alrighty,

Navigating to the 11.2 section of that page. Oh, and for the heck of it I deleted all my repositories and put them back in.

Oh, and I’m on a 64 bit system; AMD processor.

For libdvdcss it says to get libdvdcss2-1.2.9-1.i386.rpm

But I already have libdvdcss-1.2.10-6.17.x86_64

But I suppose they are still different because one is libdvdcss2 and other is libdvdcss?

I’ll go ahead and fetch it awayway. :expressionless:

And here’s the output from that long zypper in command…

Resolving package dependencies…

Problem: libxine1-codecs-1.1.18.1-1.pm.38.3.x86_64 requires libxine1 = 1.1.18.1, but this requirement cannot be provided
uninstallable providers: libxine1-1.1.18.1-1.pm.38.3.i586[11.2_1]
libxine1-1.1.18.1-1.pm.38.3.x86_64[11.2_1]
Solution 1: Following actions will be done:
install libxine1-1.1.18.1-1.pm.38.3.x86_64 (with vendor change)
openSUSE → PackMan :: Startseite
install libxine1-pulse-1.1.18.1-1.pm.38.3.x86_64 (with vendor change)
openSUSE → PackMan :: Startseite
install libxine1-gnome-vfs-1.1.18.1-1.pm.38.3.x86_64 (with vendor change)
openSUSE → PackMan :: Startseite
Solution 2: do not ask to install a solvable providing libxine1-codecs
Solution 3: break libxine1-codecs by ignoring some of its dependencies

Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/3/c] (c):

Oh bloody hell, dependency issues, and updates to be had. I think.

I’ll stop here and stay at the above prompt; what now? That’s something not mentioned in the instructions - what to do about dependency issues.

What’s next?

Lots of output, and warnings to conclude with…

There are some running programs that use files deleted by recent upgrade. You may wish to restart some of them. Run ‘zypper ps’ to list these programs.
mouse:~ # zypper ps
The following running processes use deleted files:

PID | PPID | UID | Login | Command | Service | Files
------±-----±----±------±---------±--------±-----------------------------------------------------------------
25505 | 1 | 0 | root | knotify4 | | /usr/lib64/xine/plugins/1.28/xineplug_inp_dvd.so

I’ll not worry about the knotify4 thing. Continuing on with their instructions.

Just reboot, it’s easier

Rebooted system:

Got Shoutcast streams going
Got some MP3 going. I have a few files that don’t play, but I know play under 11.0.
MP4s play.

Going to amarok 2.x configure doesn’t give the familiar option to select Xine and such. Just my sound card. Oh wait, found it under Backend.

Anything else?

If not thanks for the help; Bloody brilliant!

Happy to help.

If you view by repo and look thru Packman, you can manually look and see if pm is in each package installed, it should be, if you used the package switcher.
And you can also use the version tab and radio button to make individual switches
