All users: DO NOT USE "nodeps" OPTIONS

Dear all,

Lately I’ve run across a couple of posts where people suggest to download packages and install them with a ‘nodeps’ option. Before the results of this are going to flood the forum I’d like to give some advice to new users, in fact to any forum member: NEVER USE nodeps OPTIONS, DO NOT IGNORE dependencies.

All packages that together build your linux system depend on eachothers availability. To have a slide-show you need something that can display photo’s; ignoring that would at maximum give you an interface showing an empty screen. You cannot ignore the necessity of certain parts of your car and expect it to take you home safely either.

Yes, sometimes it happens, that you want an update and it tells you you cannot install it, unless you ignore something. Report it here, report it any way to openSUSE or the community and a solution will be provided.

Realy, linux is rock stable, people aren’t. I know, i’m a people myself.

Personally i agree, leaving something out is not a good idea & using “nodeps” should not be used unless you are willing to put up with breakages. If i need something & it requires a dependency i can’t find, inevitably Google or the Dev will help out. Failing that, i compile from source :slight_smile:

–force isn’t necessarily a good one either.

True, bit like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole rotfl!

Andy

and a t-square on a round table.:stuck_out_tongue:

Still depends on the size of the square, size of the hole.

if (squarroot(2ribofsquareribofsquare) < diamater_of_hole) {
echo “Square peg fits in round hole”;
}
else {
echo “Square peg does not fit in round hole”;
}

:wink:

In such a case it isn’t really a force is it? :wink:
