but not with the kernel pae (whatever that is).

The only complexity was having to change the defaultrouter from
eth0 to wlan0 with ip route.

Um, the only oddity is that the machine (Dell XPS720) has to be
booted twice for the DNS to work (thru ATT 2wire DSL).
It seems not to care if it is booted to the pae kernel first.
