Hey guys, I hv just switched from ubuntu9.10 to opensuse, and again the nightmare of ATI began.
I use ati mobility hd2400, it worked somehow well under ubuntu. Just that resizing or maximizing windows is very slow when 3d effect is activated. But there is a solution under ubuntu9.10,
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa
It worked. After installing these packages, my laptop didn’t lag any more.
However, when I switched to opensuse and install the ati official driver, the nightmare came again. I am thinking about installing apt and use this ppa, but will it affect the system? Or since this solution actually comes from fedora which also use rpm, is there any packages for opensuse as well?
You cant add a buntu ppa in openSUSE as openSUSE does not use .deb, and a redhat repo might not be viable either.
However a patch might come our way soon.
It’s possible to install apt in opensuse, and I think I will then be able to install the ppa, right?
No it wont work, its a totally different system here.
But maybe soon we will see the improvements that were made, you could make requests too.
Hey I know how you feel, in both Ubuntu Jaunty and openSUSE 11.1 I had issues with my card and had to wait a month before drivers caught up with my system.
I have a intel card, and ATI is not much better then that in terms of support in linux.
It all hangs on the driver makers, and the distro’s to implement when possible.
