after upgrade to kernel 4.15 kwin fails to complete desktop

hi,

Updated Tumbleweed to openSUSE-release-20180203-1.2.x86_64
together with update of kernel to kernel-default-4.15.0-1.5.x86_64

after which kwin fails, result: black screen except for mouse pointer
and System Monitor window showing without frame (from last shut-down)

zypper dup and yast show no conflicts and no updates available

any suggestions?

Yes, look at this thread.
Had the same problem, solved it by deleting the contents of /var/lib/sddm/.cache and ~/.cache.

deleting each users .cache and /var/lib/sddm/.cache solved the problem
