After updating, I now have GNOME as a DE option at the SDDM?

I did not select GNOME at install, I selected KDE. For a long while, I’ve only had (Plasma) Wayland, (Plasma) X11 and IceWM as the available options. Now, after this update, I also have GNOME Xorg and GNOME. I’m completely confused.

I don’t know what other information I should include.

So if I understand correctly you had 3 DE options and now you have 5 including two gnome options. While I agree that is remarkable it is not clear to me what you want to accomplish.

Maybe relevant:

After a boot, restart or logout/login, when you get to the login window and put in your username, there is an icon that allows selection of the desktop to which you will be logged into. The icon is different and in a different place depending on the desktop you used previously. May take a little experimentation to find it.
The drop down menu from this icon shows what desktops and/or window managers you have installed and are available. Note that installing gnome pattern installs several variations including gnome, gnome classic, gnome for xorg, gnome for wayland, and perhaps others that I do not recall. From this menu, you select what choice you wish to login to. Then put in your password in the login window and proceed.

Not sure of your question, but if you see some options here that you didn’t install intentionally, you should post back.

Roll back to a previous snapshot before the update you mention. Read through the packages that zypper lists next time you try to update.

I forgot about this post, most likely I somehow installed GNOME unknowingly. I’ve just discovered what linux patterns are.
