After update to Plasma 6 kTorrent got stuck in system tray

One more thing to report after update to Plasma 6 - when kTorrent is running and is minimized to system tray it does not come back up. Hovering over the icon gives current stats, as usual. Right click on the icon gives kTorrent menu shortcuts, one of them being “Restore”, but when clicking on it nothing happens, just as when clicking on the icon itself. It got stuck.

Clicking on kTorrent in app launcher gives a bouncing feedback but in the end no window opens and it keeps sitting in the system tray.

The only way to bring kTorrent window is to quit/kill it and then launch it again.

After than it can be put into system tray, but comes back out of it only once and then gets stuck again.

So the behavior is - open kTorrent, minimize it, restore it, minimize is - gets stuck.

System tray icon is also invisible until I hover, but that is a general problem with icon packs in Plasma 6, I understand, so probably unrelated.

Hmmm…I’m not observing that behaviour. Xorg or Wayland? Likely theme/icon related?

I’m on Wayland.

Other apps, ie VLC or Telegram, restore themselves from system tray just fine, it’s only kTorrent that misbehaves.

I’m wondering if there is a way to bring up a window without clicking on system tray icon. Can’t think of anything.

VLC icon is fine, but Telegram and kTorrent are invisible until I hover. Telegram opens on click, kTorrent doesn’t.

Icons and themes will eventually get updated to work with Plasma 6, but not being able to bring up a window must be a different issue.

kTorrent build time shows it’s from 23 Feb (version 24.02.0-1.1). Maybe I should wait until it gets updated, too.

What happens if you launch it from a terminal?

Absolutely nothing happens when I type “ktorrent” in terminal. No errors, no warnings, no feedback whatsoever.

Maybe it needs a special way of launching, something with dbus or display settings?

I’m using openSUSE Leap 15.5. I have ktorrent version 24.0.2 (from the KDE Applications repo).

I’m subscribed to these repos (in addition to the official).

I’m not observing any issues with my Plasma 6 desktop environment.

There might be Tumbleweed specific issues that cause my kTorrent behavior. I just updated the system two hours ago, which is when I noticed it. Yesterday, after update to Plasma 6, kTorrent worked fine and I didn’t see any issues (other than the invisible icon).

Yes, that is definitely the case. Something specific to your current DE state.

It launches without issue for me.
