After reinstall of 12.3 (and then 12.2)= no VPN connection (timed out)

I am trying to connect to a VPN provider. The server is up. The subscription is valid and worked before.
I tried to connect with openSUSE 12.2 and 12.2. With the original KDE and with 4.10.3 update. With 32 bit and 64 bit. The error I get is always the same (and I do not recall an update recently that could cause this):

I tried with normal permissions, secure permissions. I do not understand where the issue could be and why it comes up now.
Any help is appreciated.

What kind of VPN endpoint is it? Cisco?

I had no problems with our cisco vpn and using vpnc. No special config it just worked.

The endpoint is an openVPN server. So this is openVPN on openVPN. But it times out. The only reference to this I found it for an old bug from 2011. At the time they claimed it was a permission problem, but this is a normal install, and the permissions where default, then local secure default without changing a dot. So before filing a bug report it would be nice to investigate if somebody knows about this (apparently new) bug. This should be the case on all installs as I tried:

  • 12.2 - 32 and 64 bit
  • 13.3 32 and 64 bit
  • I tried with two different service providers, settings in two different countries.
  • I contacted the provider, that confirmed openVPN is up my subscription O.K. and that he had no login (since my reinstall)
  • I have the log error as stated, so openVPN is not able to access apparently some file (password? Is kwallet broken?).

So just an openVPN on openVPN problem. Nothing fancy.

now I reinstalled openvpn, networkmanager and all nm-plugins.
As a result I am not getting any log from openvpn anymore. But martian sources. I looked them up and was surprised:

Now, how can I get martian sources from Novell? Is this like Microsoft doing with skype, visiting ip-addresses and installations :-o

Well for the martian sources I do not know. But for the vpn not working, uninstalling completely and using gnome nm-applet connects. I reported a bug as this is probable a problem of interaction between the interface kwallet and knetworkmanager. We will see what the devs respond.
