Microphone used to work well, but now it does not.
Indicator in Gnome sound properties does not move and there is no sound in Skype.
Gnome. Uck … Don’t get me wrong, I like the look/feel of Gnome in the most part better than KDE, but its sound implementation is for the birds (errrrr… for birds that can’t chirp).

In particular, use this as a mic test in terminal:
arecord -vv -fdat foo.wav
if that does not work, then advise, in which case I have VERY LARGE number of diagnostic commands for you to send, and it would be best if you can get this working so that we don’t have to resort to that. 
After the kernel update all works well again.
