After latest patches/updates: system hangs with complaint about scheduling from idle thread

Recently I applied all relevant available patches and updates to an installation of LEAP 42.1 that’s been in use for quite some time.

Only after that, did I start to have this problem:

  1. System seems to “hang”.
  2. The screen goes black, as if it were in single-user console tty mode.
  3. Messages that are of the type that would be expected from a “panic” are dumped to the screen, with a complaint about scheduling from an idle thread.
  4. Either using “journalctl” or by recursively grep-ing through the files in /var/log I am not able to find the messages that were dumped to the screen.

So far, I believe this has only happened when I was using Flash on multiple tabs within a browser.

I’ve done both a search on opensuse.org and a general Internet search, and haven’t find a mention of such a thing, so far.

Any helpful thoughts/information would be greatly appreciated.

For starters, I wouldn’t run multiple instances of Flash.
Flash has a reputation for monopolizing system resources when running… Running more than one at the same time would have unknown consequences.

If you can’t find the event in your logfiles, then snap a picture of what displays on the screen and post somewhere, then link to your Forum post.
