Hi!
After the installation of openSUSE 11.3, i still see the drivers and such still loading, and then of course the desktop. Can I, or how can I, eliminate this, so all it does after starting, is go to the desktop? On one of the screens I have a choice of:
xeu–openSUSE 11.3 -2.6.34.7 -0.5
openSUSE 11.3 -2.6.34.7 -0.5
Failsafe openSUSE 11.3 -2.6.34.7 -0.5
Floppy
Boot options vga=ox314
The second line is highlighted, and goes to the the desktop after a sight moment. Should I be selecting another line so I will not be seeing the drivers load or see them when I turn of the computer?
Not sure why this is there. Except you somehow managed to install the xen kernel.
xeu–openSUSE 11.3 -2.6.34.7 -0.5 ( I think it is really xen--openSUSE 11.3 -2.6.34.7 -0.5)
Are you saying – You see scrolling text as the system boots/loads? And not a pretty splash screen?
You are absolutely right is is xen. I installed this distro with no additions… I just installed it as usual, not adding or changing anything…
And yes, it is scrolling text.

If ‘initrd’ is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
cnf initrd
xe4EfG5Jk:/home/dave #
xe4EfG5Jk:/home/dave #
You need splash=silent in the openSUSE 11.3 - 2.6.34.7-0.5 stanza.
This is hardly a stock install xen does not get installed by itself and you have implemented a password in grub. Should not be a problem but it is not a install simply taking the defaults.
Do you know what Xen is?? Do you need it?
If you do not need it I recommend you remove the xen-kernel via Yast.
Okay… here is what I have done so far. I finally found “software manager” and removed the Hypervisor. But it still shows upon rebooting. There is a command or two that can be used in the terminal to totally remove it, isn’t there?
And I still have not gotten the right commands for removing the vga 0x314.
I am still experimenting with Linux, and still glad that I got away from Windoze…
Thanks for help.
Progress report… I have gone into Boot Loader and removed the xen… and it doesn’t show up… now I am looking for the boot options to remove the vga0x314.
I have not found any entry anywhere regarding the vga 0x314. My question is this: By removing the vga 0x314, how does it stop the scrolling of text when I start and stop my computer? And where do I find the commands to stop the scrolling? I do understand that the vga is all part of the graphics thing, but…

The text is always there. If the graphics mode is adequate, it will be
hidden behind a dull colored background with just a progress bar, till it
finishes and it is replaced by the login window.
However, if there is any problem during booting, like fsck, you will see
the text and it can not be removed. You are to see it and do things.
If you configure grub to ask for a password, you also disable the graphic
screen. It is a side effect and can’t be disabled.
About the vga parameter, be careful if you remove it. Yes, it is
documented, look inside the kernel Documentation directory. I suggest you
use “ask”, find a suitable parameter, and use it. I suggest you don’t
replace, but create a new boot entry for all those tests.

Thank you very much for all your help. From what i understand I have to be VERY careful about removing vga. So the better part of valor tells me to leave this alone…
Thank you very much, all of you!
We shall call this case closed and solved!
