After install new software, can't view it on Main Menu

When I install new software, the menu item on main menu is not created automatically.

However the new software was successful installed and I can create a new item on main menu manually (Adding a new item menu and specifying the location to the command application).

What can I do for the new software instalations automatically create a item on the main menu?

Thanks,

Tiago

HELLO,

What Desktop manager are you using ? KDE, gnome?
Anyway, it should be automatic. Try to wait a few second, or try to disconnect you and login back ,to see if it changes anything.

Bye

Hi,

I’m using Gnome and openSUSE v11.1.

This problem continues after logout, restart or shutdown.

Tiago

This is something you can do.
First you need to be able to launch your program from the command line so that you know it works ok and the problem only lies on it not showing in the application browser.
Then create a desktop launcher by right clicking your Gnome desktop. In the command textbox write the command line that launches your program. You can also select an icon if you choose to.
Once the launcher is created just move it the application folder like so:

mv /home/youruser/Desktop/yourapplication.desktop /usr/share/applications/yourapplication.desktop

I think you need to be root to write onto that specific directory. If all goes well you should see the application listed in the Application Browser on slab.

Hope this works.

slab 0.9.14 also has this problem.
When i logout and log back in,new programs appear ,otherwise they don’t appear on installation alone
