Today, I update the system and install gtk3-engines-unico .
Then it tells me to log out and in again.
After log out, I find I can not log in gnome under 12.3 at that time .
How to do with it ?
thanks
Hi
Do you get the ‘Oh No’ screen? Is you user set to autologin? Have you rebooted the system since the update?
I have gtk3-engine-unico installed and have no issues.
GNOME has crashed.
Login into “icewm” using sessions dropdown in login screen and open YaST and “undo” the damage you have done using Extras (Menu)==>History
When I log in gnome , I see ’ Oh no…’ . I have set ‘autologin’.
After I log into icewm and delete gtk3-engine-unico , I can log into gnome successfully.
Are you using that package to install themes ?
You may optionally put all your theme related stuff into ~/.themes
I manaully install some themes in ~/.themes and ~/.local/share/themes .
When I open some GTK application from terminal , it says: lack unico gtk engine .
Can you share me the links sto get the themes so that i can test the scenario?

Hi
It shows as Faience-Ocre, it worked for me, but the unico theme engine
is installed, what happens if you create a test user, install the unico
theme engine in that test users session. Then install the theme via the
tweak-tool as well as extracting into a ~/.theme folder.

I create a new user and set theme freshly.
I download the two files from the two links and extract them in ~/.themes .
When I set ‘shell theme’ to ‘Faience-Light-Panel’ , Gnome is OK.
But after I set ‘Gtk+ Theme’ and ‘Current theme’ both to ‘Faience’, Gnome crashed. I can not Log in gnome now.
I can not remember which one does harm , ‘Gtk+ Theme’ or ‘Current theme’ .

Hi
I guess it just doesn’t like 3.6.2, I tried and they don’t even work for
me… no crashes though.

@ op- your tweak tool looks different from mine.
i have “current” theme first whereas you have “cursor” theme first.
I have the same problem with a fresh install of 12.3 gnome with all updates. it happens with any theme that uses the unico engine. doesn’t happen with the same theme on any other gnome 3.6 distro I’ve used. opensuses unico package is badly broken…

Hi
Do you have a theme reference to try? Have you raised a bug, if so do
you have the bug reference?
Is it the default GNOME 3.6.2 or have you updated to 3.8?

Gnome 3.6.2, I didn’t add any extra repos or anything (well, except for packman), just vanilla opensuse 12.3
you can reproduce it with the popular Mediterranean night theme: MediterraneanNight Series GNOME-Look.org. I had no problem using the same theme in any other gnome 3.6 distro. You can see in the gnome-look comments (page 7) there’s another user having the same issue as us.(I also recall reproducing it with another theme but forget which one, I think it was the greybird theme from the repos, so I dont think its an issue with the theme). just installing the engine does not cause the crash, it only happens once you apply a theme that uses the engine.
I was going to report a bug, ended up forgetting about the issue until seeing this thread
EDIT: Think I found an existing bug report for this http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-updates/2013-04/msg00089.html Looks like a recent update should fix it, I’ll give it a shot when I get home from work.
Did it Worked for you? Not for me.
Hello!
I did find the problem and the solution!
It seems that there is a bug in Gnome-Shell 3.6, that gtk3-unico-engine doesn’t recognize the theme in “/home/user/.themes”, then crashes.
Fix: You can create a new themes folder in ~/.local/share and move/copy all themes to it, and then create a symbolic link by running this command:
ln -s $HOME/.local/share/themes $HOME/.themes
Regards,
Eduardo Hernacki
The update did fix it for me, but I had the theme installed in /usr/share/themes
