@gabexd39 check the Motherboard specs and should be at least dual channel if it has 4 slots (two are usually blue and two usually black).
I have 128GB of DDR4 ECC RAM (8 x 16GB), it’s Quad Channel in my HP Workstation. I run a Windows 11 Pro VM, it consumes the full 32GB allocated from the get go, linux virtual machines are way more friendly with allocated RAM.
@gabexd39 , buy that RAM - as far as you can afford it - and as much as you are content with the price you get. When it comes to the components you listed (old and new resp. planned) RAM probably is not the most expensive component, it’s just not.
For one, you could imagine the need for more RAM in the near future. On the other hand DDR5 is quite expensive still, indeed. Therefore DDR5 shall be still expensive, too, in that near future, where you could imagine a need for more RAM coming up.
If you’ve spend more than an hour musing about more RAM or not, at some point you owe it to yourself to just buy it - at least if prices haven’t jumped overnight and you weren’t drunk while musing about it in the first place.
BTW, RAM is an investment, it’s not consumed away, you might even get a good price selling it on eBay one day. Therefore, buy it and have fun! - Regards, M.
2 RAM sticks is better for AM5 with DDR5 - you’ll get higher clocks.
You’ll also get higher clocks for DDR4 with 2 sticks instead of 4, but effect is smaller.
X3D CPU is much better for games (5700X3D).
Try to find mobo with X570 chipset at reasonable price.
