advancemenu trouble (mame frontend)

I’ve installed advancemenu and advancemame from the emulator repository. Advancemame works great from the command line.

AdvanceMenu seems like it’s working (artwork is shown and games are selectable) but when you try to launch a title it freezes and must be killed to stop.

Has anybody gotten advancemenu from the emulator repo to work correctly?

In case anyone is interested, other forums say that the version of advancemame in the Emulators repo doesn’t work with x64 systems.

Rather than waiting for it to be updated (or compiling myself which I’ve heard is a nightmare), I switched to SDLmame with Mame Executor as the frontend, and they are both working great.
