Additional repostiory updates

Is it safe to run full update of packages when I have added some
community repositories (packman, VLC etc.) or should I disable them,
update and re-enable only when I need them?

If you haven’t added any unstable repositories then it’s absolutely
safe to update all of your packages.
AFAIK the VLC repo should be disabled to avoid the codecs
inconsistencies.
