I have a SUSE Linux 10.1(X86-64) system and need to add some additional repositories to Yast. I’m looking for one that has updated versions of Python and other utilities. Can someone point me to a repo for SUSE Linux 10.1 that has this? Unfortunately, doing an upgrade on this OS is not an option at the moment.

10.1 has not been supported for a long while. Perhaps someone more familiar with Evergreen can comment whether anything in that project applies to 10.1?
If an upgrade is not an option, I’d recommend perhaps a side-by-side, eg installing a modern OS as a base supporting virtualization on some machine (even relatively old hardware might be possible), then imaging this 10.1 system as a Guest on that machine, plus an additional Guest running a modern OS.
You should then be able to stage/test migrating to a newer deployment on your own time.
BTW - Is it too much of a secret, can you state your reasons why upgrading isn’t an option?

The faculty member that this server belongs won’t approve the down time for me to upgrade it to the latest release. If I could get that down time, I could get things taken care ot.

Impossible.
openSUSE 10.1 is from 2006, long past its maintenance cycle. There are no
updates at all.
You have to download sources and create the updates on your own, if you
still want to use that old distro.
Unless what you have is the enterprise version 10, service pack 1 - and in
that case this is the wrong forum.

He is risking that someone breaks into that server, and then he will be
forced to upgrade on a rush.

learn if you are running openSUSE 10.1 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
version 10 SP 1 by doing either (or both) of these in a user terminal…
(aka: SLES 10 SP 1 and incorrectly, but often “SLES 10.1” or even “SUSE
10.1” but “openSUSE 10.1” is never correct…)

cat /etc/issue
if you dont see ‘open’ then you need to ask over in the
commercial/enterprise forums here: http://tinyurl.com/422mrnu
but wait: if it is SLES then you probably need to know that it is not
possible to use the openSUSE repos with SLES, and not possible to use
the SLE repos with openSUSE…
otoh: if you have SLES you probably (should?) have access to the repos,
and it is just a matter of using YaST…if you have a service
contract with them…if not, download the source and compile/install what
you need…

@)angryheretic: welcome here. Some suggestion: peform the install on another machine, configure it completely, test until done. Then shutdown the server, replace disk, boot and you’re up with a fresh installed OS. I recently did this. It requires preparation, some manual configuration, but it can be done. Another one: for servers like the one you’re talking about, seriously consider moving to SLED, where longtime support is available.
I am presently looking at a green box labeled with “SUSE Linux 10.1 Strong Encryption (128+ bit)”
It contains a wllet with a dual-layer DVD and a set of CDs.
This was the successor to SuSE Linux Professional and the predecessor to openSUSE.

oh! i forgot (though i ran both 9 and 10) you are both right…there
was no openSUSE 10.1, but on the other hand there was a Novell supported
SUSE 10 …but, i can’t find that it is still supported…
so . . . as already said: SLE_ is the way to go for long term care…
