Adding UFS drive support during installation

I was able to install gecko linux (an abandoned OSS Tumbleweed variant distro) on a surface go 4 tablet following the suggestiong in this thread. It was automatically closed before I could get my hand on trying the suggestion.

However, like using nearly every other distro live installer (Ubuntu, Fedora), the first boot can only reach grub and then send me to some kind of a rescue screen, prolly due to lack of UFS drive support reported here.

I tried LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) mentioned in the above link, it magically worked. It seems to me that every distro just has different default modules for installation.

Therefore I would like to know if it’s easy to manually add UFS support when I install gecko-linux, so that I can transition to opensuse TW later on with it. If not, I’ll just have to settle with linux mint on the tablet.
